From the very moment that the world heard about the tragedy of the people of El Salvador because of the floods and avalanches as a consequence of hurricane Ida, there was a humanitarian effort to send financial aid and specific products requested by the authorities in El Salvador. There are more than thirteen thousand persons in temporary shelters in five departments of El Salvador, and the government estimates that help will be needed for some seventy-five thousand for several months. Time goes by and the crisis continues to constitute an insistent call for humanitarian help to the nations of the world, mainly those in the region and specially the United States of America that has the capacity to send the help that the Salvadorans so urgently need. In Los Angeles, California, and here, in Miami, many Central American communities and, particularly, the Salvadoran community, have sent and continue to send their help. To this must be added that the American nation, as is usual in these situations when its humanitarian sensibility and cooperation is needed, is sending significant help. No one should forget this tragedy that is latent because the suffering of the Salvadoran people, the deprivation they are experiencing, calls for the solidarity of the whole world. |
