The Worrisome Tour
of Ahmadinejad
in Latin America
More than delicate, threatening, is the campaign of the Iranian dictator, although he is called president, traveling and penetrating countries of the Western Hemisphere with the overt goal of challenging or insulting the United States government. Since the American government is a reflection of the nation – something that does not happen always in other countries – this is a political aggression against this great North American nation.
The Iranian dictator visited Venezuela first and afterwards went to the inauguration of Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua, whose election has been disputed by the Nicaraguan opposition parties. Now, he is in Havana consolidating subversive positions with brothers Fidel and Raúl Castro. It has been informed that from Havana he will travel to Ecuador in this tour of subversive activities.
As far as it can be recalled, this is the first time that a ruler from the Middle East, with characteristics that are incompatible with Western democracy, is intervening – because this campaign is intervention – in the political life of the nations of the Western Hemisphere in open defiance of the Washington government. And this defiance has special significance because although there are other governments that can be affected, the American government is the one most involved in the defense of Western democracy.
In the political history of the American countries, especially those in Central America, there is no similar case as this one whose symbol is the influence of the Iranian ruler with serious implications including solidarity with the enemies of Washington which is challenged with adjectives that represent an aggression – albeit only verbal – against the American government.
It is a duty of political morality and security for all the governments of the Americas to follow closely the actions of the Iranian dictator and make him know that he does not have the support or sympathy of the majority of the governments and peoples of the Western Hemisphere, although right now he might have that of the governments that are allies of Cuba and Venezuela.
