Another Arbitrariness
by Hugo Chávez
Because of several reasons, the closing of Venezuela’s General Consulate in Miami, with jurisdiction in other states, has created a very serious, very detrimental problem, for the Venezuelans who live in the area or for non-Venezuelans who go to that office for business or any other reason. The fact that Washington might have declared the Venezuelan Consul General “persona non grata” does not mean that the closing of that office be justified. The individual who has been declared non grata is the one who can not be working in that consular office, but this does not mean that the consulate has to close its doors, causing serious problems to Venezuelan or non-Venezuelans who are interested in some of the negotiations that are carried out in consulates.
Therefore, the Venezuelans must blame Hugo Chávez for the closing of the consulate which has nothing to do specifically with the action taken by Washington to expel the consul engaged in activities alien to her office and that violate the norms that regulate the work of foreign diplomats and consuls in the United States of America.
The Venezuelans living in the South of the United States once more confirm how damaging for their country is a government with the characteristics of the one that Venezuela is now facing or suffering with Hugo Chávez at the helm for many years.
Certainly, Chávez’s partisans in this region will find an easy solution for any problem that they might encounter because of the consulate closing. Nevertheless, what is happening causes some aggravation, to say the least, for those Venezuelans.
Numerous are the problems that the Chávez government has created and continues to create for Venezuela as a result of his arbitrary characteristics. Certainly, the people of Venezuela are experiencing many problems due to the way that Chávez conducts the government. His way is typical of a dictator who does with the government anything that he wishes.
