Every opportunity that presents itself for the American people to become more knowledgeable about the electoral process should be taken advantage of, even though it could be said that enough has been said about the issue. It can be said that there is always something to be learned with every debate of great or small significance. This is a way for the citizens to be learning, as they would in school, about how democracy works in the United States of America, especially in electoral matters.
Therefore, it is not reasonable to stay away from these debates with the argument that enough has been said about the issues in the last few months or weeks. There is always something to be learned or reaffirmed about how – we repeat – the electoral system of the American nation works and, in general, all its democratic life.
What is heard or said during an electoral process is always much more than what in general terms has been heard outside this process, unless in the case of individuals interested in studying in depth the political and juridical life of the United States of America.
It is easy to see that at all times – so to speak – an issue is discussed or some concepts are expressed that are necessary or, at least, fitting having to do with the electoral campaign and with the political life of the nation in general. There are some aspects of the debate that are surprising, such as the case of the candidates’ family life. And they are surprising because they were not known before and, especially, because when something was known it was prudently kept away from the debate observing a decorous conduct in spite of the information furnished.
It is a good thing that the two historic national parties observe a conduct that be morally prudent in political terms, eliminating violent and virulent personal attacks which, in one way or another, weaken democratic coexistence understood in terms of civism and even of civility. Therefore, it is not sensible to say that one does not want to hear anything more about the electoral debate because one has heard “enough”. Nothing will ever be enough with respect to an issue of such vast scope.
