It is fitting that in electoral campaigns at any level, party leaders endeavor to express doctrinal opinions with a practical sense on behalf of what should most interest each community. As soon as something out of place appears in the debate which discredits the popular consultation, there should be groups of citizens that oppose these procedures which affect the prestige of democracy and that do not offer any solution to the problems being discussed.
Right now, for example, the Republican Party’s candidates to the presidency of the United States are engaged in an electoral debate around which the country’s leaders, whatever their party, should try to demand sensible stands with a sense of patriotic responsibility. In this case, not only the Republicans have to act now, but also, from a different point of view, the Democratic Party should observe a conduct that strengthens the prestige of national democracy and that opens the doors to solutions compatible with reality and the highest national interests.
It is a good thing that in this electoral period emphasis be placed on the need to support political programs that have sensible aspects and that show an interest in solving the national problems in the best way possible through elections.
Sensible arguments should be used with a sense of civic responsibility in favor or against any partisan political issue. The important thing is that there be no insults to discredit the process and that, on the contrary, arguments are presented in a reasoned and acceptable way. In a well conducted national campaign, the process becomes a sort of school so that everyone learns how to present their programmatic points of view and to reject what they consider should be rejected in light of serious arguments.
As said before, the electoral process should become a sort of school with serious arguments and noble patriotic intentions.
