Virgilio Beato Nuñez
At midday on Sunday August 19th, 2012, at the prestigious Cuban club “Big Five Club” in the presence of more than 350 guests, a banquet took place to celebrate the retirement –as a physician- of Dr. Virgilio Beato Nuñez, an outstanding personality of our community.
Physicians like Dr. Beato, who in past December (2011) reached the age of 95 years, are recognized without any kind of reservation, in and out of the United States of America, particularly Cuba, Florida - Pensacola and Miami – and San Antonio, Texas. In hospitals and universities associated with Medicine, he has been recognized as a magnificent professional and a gentleman in the full meaning of the word.
During his already many years in Miami, Dr. Beato has been an influential guiding force for small and big groups of Cubans concerned about setting positions around Cuba´s case. He also has been able to orientate groups of non-Cubans personalities, interested in the present and future of José Martí´s fatherland. With his dissertations, always accurate, about the past and present of Cuba. For him, Cuba is his utmost noble and patriotic concern. His way of serving Cuba has been an example to persons of other nationalities who coincide with him in his patriotic concern.
Regarding his social life, he is a teacher who takes every possible opportunity to emphasize the influence of youth and, in general, all of those interested in such subject - that of Cuba -, an issue that he knows to perfection. For him his fatherland is a devotion that he cultivates meticulously.
Diario Las Américas, which has the honor of enjoying Dr. Beato´s friendship, joins with all of those who, on August 19th, 2012, paid homage to him in a deserved and significant manner. That homage was a splendid duty of civic and social character.
