World Peace
and Political Morality
Political morality is in crisis in terms of world peace. To say it better, the crisis continues with different manifestations from the last century. And this poses a huge threat for global peace that can only be prevented if in each country important sectors of the population and, particularly, of their leaders, are determined to find formulas for civilized coexistence even though it might be with the unavoidable human imperfections.
It is imperative that in every country strong sectors that are aware of what peace represents organize themselves and engage in effectively opposing those who, in one way or another, disrupt the concept of peace. And it should be added that peace is not only disrupted by nuclear or conventional war, but also by numerous tactics and manifestations of individual and collective violence. In other words, it is urgent to encourage civilized coexistence particularly in these times when young children, teen-agers, adults and the elderly are killed for whatever reason. And there are cases in which not even a reason can be found. The bodies of the dead or wounded show up where least expected without even a hint of any reason to justify it or at least to explain it.
Nowadays, the Middle East is experiencing difficult situations that affect world peace. Iran is defying the world with its efforts to develop nuclear weapons and in all that region terrorism is multiplying the seriousness of the problems. Thus, it is necessary that the greater number possible of countries of the civilized world set themselves out to combat fanaticism in any of its manifestations, particularly when it ends up in terrorism, which is terrible and immoral. Fanaticism, whether religious or political, is incompatible with what sensible people consider normal.
The cause of world peace is of supreme importance. And it should be made clear that world peace begins with peace in the villages, where human conflicts start creating and environment that after a process of transformation reaches the extremes of involving cities, countries, geographic regions and, afterwards, the whole world.
