The Last Stage
of the Electoral Process
Begins Now
Obviously, there is national expectation in the United States of America this Thursday when the Democratic Party Convention ends in Charlotte, North Carolina. Although in some cases it could be said that all arguments that can be used to defend the Democratic platform have been used, there is always interest to see what the speakers will say in the final day, particularly the main speaker, President Obama, to elicit interest. Actually, former President Clinton, who is a brilliant political speaker, said almost everything that President Obama could say in his acceptance speech. However, Obama is also a very resourceful speaker and he must have prepared well after Clinton finished his speech on Wednesday night, in order to see what new ideas he could incorporate in his speech.
Certainly, the whole country will be waiting to hear President Obama’s acceptance speech. It is possible that the president might incorporate some or many new aspects in his speech because he has access to a wealth of information that can be skillfully used when needed.
Once again, American democracy is put to the test in an electoral campaign particularly during the conventions of its two historic parties. This test will be evident in the interest that will be felt in the nation to learn about the final aspects of the Democratic Convention just as they learned and debated what took place in the Republican Convention.
Normally, no one can say that something new will be heard on the last day because he would be mistaken. Without any doubt, Obama, or any other candidate in his position, would make use of every resource at hand to awaken the interest of the audience with important arguments even if at the last minute.
Certainly, the democracy of this great republic has been tested – something normal – proving that it can do well under any circumstances in which the political system calls for the participation of the people at different times during electoral campaigns.
From now on, until Election Day, the whole country will be watching and listening closely to the candidates’ debates.
