Bin Laden’s Death has not Eliminated the Danger

Among the foreign policy victories that President Obama likes to mention is the death of Osama bin-Laden, the founder and maximum leader of al- Qaeda, killed in an operation by a specialized team of Navy Seals. Moreover, when bin Laded died it was said, and it has been repeated many times since, that the United States was now safer.

Obviously, after the events of September 11th of this year en Benghazi, Libya, this statement can not be justified. On that day took place a well-organized terrorist attack against the American Consulate in that city, and the American Ambassador to Libya and three consulate employees were killed.

The government of the United States of America as well as those in Europe must be aware of the fact that the threat of the Islamic extremists has not disappeared. On the contrary, it continues to be a terrible reality. Any Western government that, logically, does not share the ideas of the Muslim extremists must be prepared to face acts of terrorism that will continue whenever the “guard is lowered”, so to speak.

Although it is constantly said that Islam is a religion of peace, the Muslim or Islamic, however you want to call them, extremists do not share this idea and have declared a holy war or “jihad” against all that Western values and culture represent. No one should think that this attitude will change and, therefore, what must be done is to be in a constant state of alert to prevent any terrorist attack.

The countries that are victims of Islamic terrorism should coordinate efforts to confront this huge threat with all the skill and determination necessary to thwart the conspiracy and the acts known as terrorism. This is a necessary and often conflictive and dangerous task. But, it must be undertaken.
