They did not Defeat Uribe at Unasur

It is a fact that although in the presidential meeting organized by Unasur in Bariloche, Argentina, it was attempted to place President Uribe on the defendant’s seat and overwhelm him with out of place and anti-juridical invectives, and condemn him, he came out as a wise expounder, firm in his arguments and even giving a lesson in what sovereignty is; that sovereignty that was discussed so much during the meeting in an effort to condemn the United States of America and Colombia for having signed an agreement for American military personnel to use existing bases in Colombia in the fight against drug trafficking.

President Uribe, who is a lawyer and, certainly, a statesman, orator y patriot defended the thesis of Colombia and his government in a way that, at the end, it won in this debate where hostility was the main characteristic in the first part of the conference. The hostility of those who were attacking him crashed against the soundness of his arguments and the firmness of his exposition. This was a victory for Colombia and also, because of his arguments, for the United States of America, which was being accused of installing military bases with aggressive purposes against the governments of the Southern Cone which, in great part, are enemies of the United States and allies of Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez.

Naturally, it is necessary to watch out and even condemn the existence of this conspiracy by several rulers of Marxist-Leninist orientation that is taking place in the region, already with bases in the Caribbean, in Central America and in South America. The logical thing is that they may have learned something from the lesson given by master teacher Alvaro Uribe.

In the next few months will be seen the results of the victory – although perhaps there are some who do not consider it a victory – of the President of Colombia in this conference in Bariloche, Argentina. Let us hope that the concept of sovereignty not be abused any more to protect Marxist conspiracies in the region. That is what is being attempted in the case of Honduras, whose constitutionally organized government is being attacked by other governments that at their fancy, invoke sovereignty, democracy and autonomy to decide the fate of Honduras in emergency circumstances which have been solved in the light of the constitutional norms of that republic.
