Donald Trump: “Miami is a testament to the greatness of Hispanics”

His position on immigration, the commitment he assumes with nations that face regimes such as Cuba and Venezuela, as well as the arguments with which he faces the racial issue, are just some of the topics the President addresses in this exclusive interview

“A nation without borders is not a nation”, this is just one of many statements President Donald Trump has shared on his Twitter account. And with the same peculiar way of expressing his ideas and opinions, he communicates through these public messages many of the guidelines that identify the policies of his administrations.

He is not a politician by profession, so his detractors point out. However, that trait that critics highlight as a disadvantage for the man who leads the most powerful nation in the world- carrying the weight of challenges and responsibilities that such position implies- is precisely what supporters of the White House incumbent praise the most.

"Trump has broken all the canons of diplomacy," Republican analyst Frank Rodríguez said in an interview with DIARIO LAS AMÉRICAS, referring to the President's achievements in international politics, and mentioning examples such as having been able to stop the nuclear threat of North Korea after holding a meeting with North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un, as well as his defining role in the recent peace agreements reached between Middle Eastern countries and Israel.

As a businessman, for almost three and a half years Trump managed to enable the US to show figures of a healthy economy, but the arrival of the pandemic that paralyzed the country, in addition to imposing it to face the aftermath of a global health crisis, with more than 200,000 deaths in the US, has also imposed on the President the need to adopt measures to prevent the nation from being involved in a new recession. In the midst of this dilemma and under a barrage of criticism, he has advanced his electoral campaign until he reached very well identified sectors such as the Cuban-Americans of South Florida as his most fervent supporters.

Upfront and irreverent, with methods that go beyond the conventional ways, can be a description that gets close to the personality of the man who, being a billionaire businessman, chose to get involved in the complex world of politics with the purpose, as defined by his campaign since 2016, to "Make America Great Again."

Just a few days shy of the event that he defines as "the most important election of our lives", president Donald Trump granted this exclusive interview to DIARIO LAS AMÉRICAS.

1- Mr. President, how would you define your relationship with the Latin community? Do you acknowledge Latino contributions to the United States? Do you consider your relationship with that community could be improved?

I have a profound respect and admiration for Hispanic Americans. Latinos are winners and you have made many contributions to our great country. When I look at Miami, I see a testament to how Hispanics have achieved greatness in our country. They are hard-working Americans who value family, faith and freedom. These are also my values and it’s why we’re doing so great with Hispanic Americans.

I’m working every day to protect freedoms and support strong families and communities. We have built the greatest economy ever for Hispanics: The lowest poverty levels, the highest salaries, and record job numbers before the China virus. With four more years, we will be even more successful.

2- Can you explain why was the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) revoked by your administration and if you have any solution in mind for those affected?

We are working very hard for a solution to help the DACA recipients. In 2018, our proposal would have granted a pathway to citizenship to 1.8 million DACA recipients and the Democrats turned it down because they and Joe Biden want chaos and lawlessness in our immigration system. The Democrats are very weak on illegal immigration, and we can’t have that. We want a legal immigration system that is strong, safe, fair, and addresses DACAs.

3- Historically, the United States has been a welcoming country. However, you have toughen up surveillance at the south border. And that is a door to millions of Latin immigrants that are fleeing their countries which systems have failed. How would you explain that policy? Is the US working with those countries that are sending emigrants?

There is no country in the world that accepts more immigrants than the United States, but it has to be done legally. I want legal immigration. We need to know exactly who is entering our country, which is why my administration has made unprecedented investments in securing the southern border and strengthening the enforcement of our immigration laws. We have also worked with Mexico and our regional partners to keep our country safe.

4- You have pointed out that the current situation that the Venezuelan people are enduring at the hands of Nicolas Maduro’s regimen traces back to Havana. We’ve watched you take decisions against both regimens. Do you believe you reached the results you hoped for?

My administration has taken very strong actions against the Castro, Maduro and Ortega regimes and I will not stop fighting until Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua are free. The great people in these countries have immense potential and they deserve liberty and human rights.

5- Those unsupportive of your presidency signal you out as someone extremist who is supporting white supremacists. Can you describe your supporters?

I have consistently condemned white supremacy and all forms of hatred, including communism and socialism. These are extreme ideologies that have no place in our country. Joe Biden is the one who refuses to condemn the radical left, has associated with a former Ku Klux Klan leader, and did nothing for Blacks and Hispanics during his 47 years in Washington. My supporters are hard-working Americans who love our great country and do not want the United States to turn into Cuba or Venezuela.

6- One of your campaign promises was to fight against the “deep state”. Can you define the term “deep state”, how is that fight coming along and how is it beneficial to the American people?

The corrupt Democrats have treated my administration very unfairly. They promoted the Russia hoax, spied on my campaign, leaked fake news to the media and disrespected our great Constitution. We can’t have that. It undermines our democracy and violates the will of the American people. Now we see these big liberal social media and tech companies in California suppressing conservative voices while the Fake News media refusing to cover the Hunter Biden scandal. They are very corrupt!

7- How would the result of these elections influence the future of the people in Latin American?

This election is very important to Hispanics and also to the cause of freedom in Latin America. A Biden-Harris administration would be the dream of socialist dictators. The reason why Colombian socialist and former M-19 guerrilla leader Gustavo Petro and Venezuelan thug Diosdado Cabello are supporting Biden is because they know that he has always been weak on socialism and corrupt. Biden betrayed the Nicaraguan people when he voted to cut funding for the Contras. He betrayed Puerto Rico when he voted to send its pharmaceutical industry to Communist China. He betrayed Cuba when he gave unilateral concessions to the Castro regime that it did not deserve. And he betrayed Venezuela when he praised Nicolás Maduro as he was murdering his own people. I will always stand for freedom, human rights, and our great democratic allies, like the people of Colombia and all who fight for liberty.

8- Do you believe mankind is undergoing a historic moment in time or is it just exaggeration? Do these elections define the future international geopolitical order?

This is the most important election of our lifetimes. It will decide whether our country will remain free as we know it or if we will go down the road of socialism or worse. I will always fight to put America First and protect our liberty. Joe Biden and the Democrat Party have been hijacked by socialists and Marxists who want to destroy everything that our country represents. Biden does not have the strength to stand up to the radical left and he’s corrupt. So long as I am president, America will never be a socialist country.
